The Opportunity

As a dedicated Corporate Communications Principal, you will be a key member of the Corporate Communications Leadership Team, serving as a strategic communications advisor. You will leverage your deep subject matter expertise to lead proactive and strategic communications initiatives that drive business goals while reinforcing the USAA mission and culture of putting the member at the center of everything we do.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires individuals to be in the office four days per week.

This position will be based in USAA's San Antonio, TX office location.

Relocation assistance is available for this position.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead communications strategy and execution, driving large, enterprise-wide programs across USAA to support enterprise business objectives. These programs include leading communications campaigns that reinforce USAA's strong culture of putting the member at the center.

  • Develop high-impact storytelling campaigns that drive employee engagement.

  • Lead highly complex initiatives with significant leadership discretion, often serving as a proxy for executive leadership on key issues. Serve as a mentor to peers and team members while supporting their training and development.

  • Leverage data and insights to demonstrate the impact of communications programs on business objectives. Provide communications data and insights to senior leaders and enterprise stakeholders and use those insights to inform future communications strategies.

  • Oversee adherence to communication governance practices and frameworks among business and communications partners to drive a consistent and effective communications experience across audiences.

  • Conduct research and analysis of communications trends and best practices, particularly in content strategy, channel innovation, reputation management, business-focused metrics, and SEO. Synthesize findings into actionable plans that drive communications excellence across the organization.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What You'll Have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR four additional years of related experience (beyond the minimum required years of experience) may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in communications leadership roles, with a focus on developing communications strategies, leading large-scale, high-impact campaigns, and delivering results within a complex, mission-driven environment.

  • Experience developing enterprise-wide narratives, messaging, and storytelling strategies that shape brand voice and increase engagement.

  • Experience collaborating with key stakeholders, influencing senior leaders, and managing work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Experience defining strategies that empower and equip leaders to communicate effectively and engage with stakeholders.

  • Experience leveraging data and insights to demonstrate the impact of communications programs on business objectives.

What sets you apart:

  • U.S. military experience serving as a Public Affairs Officer or in another communications leadership role.

  • Extensive experience leading integrated communications campaigns and enterprise-wide change initiatives.

  • Experience advising senior executives and developing executive communications strategies.

  • Experience building communication strategies that drive culture, employee engagement, and business outcomes.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320.00 - $273,930.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
