The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a talented Policy & Alliance Relationship Principal within our Policy and Alliances department at USAA.

As a dedicated Policy and Alliance Relationship Principal, you will be a key leader within USAA's Policy and Alliances team, serving as a strategic advisor, key influencer, and network facilitator to advance USAA's dedication to serving military families. You will demonstrate your deep understanding of military family life, extensive network, and outstanding communication skills to provide experienced guidance to USAA leadership, build positive relationships with key collaborators, and advocate for policies and programs that support military families.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be located at our Washington, DC location. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Provides highly specialized guidance to USAA leadership on military family issues, ensuring USAA's products, services, and community engagement initiatives effectively address the needs of military families.

  • Act as a key influencer and advocate for military families, representing USAA's dedication to serving the military community. This includes forming relationships with key partners and advocating for policies and programs that support military families.

  • Lead USAA's engagement with military communities through outreach events, partnerships, and volunteer initiatives, encouraging positive relationships and improving USAA's reputation as a military-friendly organization.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on military family life, providing insights and perspectives to advise USAA's strategies and initiatives. Proactively researches, identifies, and solves sophisticated problems that will likely impact business direction.

  • Use your extensive network to connect USAA with key influencers, organizations, and resources that can further USAA's mission of serving the military community.

  • Engage with military families through outreach events, social media, and other channels to gather feedback and insights.

  • Network with key partners in the military community, including military leaders, advocacy organizations, government agencies, Congressional staff, industry associations, academic institutions, military family advocacy groups, key influencers, and Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs).

  • Monitor and analyze trends in military family life to identify emerging issues and opportunities for USAA to make a difference.

  • Collaborate with USAA's marketing and communications teams to develop content and campaigns that resonate with military families.

  • Provide USAA leadership and external partners with access to key decision-makers, influencers, and organizations within the military community.

  • Provide USAA leadership and external partners with insights into the needs, challenges, and aspirations of military families, enabling USAA to develop more effective products, services, and community engagement initiatives.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 10+ years of experience in a field related to military families, to include 6 years of specific experience and accountability in areas such as advocacy, community outreach, program development, or policy analysis.

  • Extensive knowledge of military family life, including the outstanding challenges faced by military spouses, children, and families across different branches of the military.

  • Established relationships with key partners in the military community, including military leaders, advocacy organizations, government agencies, and VSOs.

  • Experience applying military and military family insights and expertise to produce innovative solutions for work deliverables.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences and articulate a compelling vision for supporting military families.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What sets you apart:

  • Extensive experience with direct advocacy, and/or lobbying experience on behalf of a VSO (Veteran Service Organization), MSO (Military Service Organization), or other non-profit organization in support of the military community.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $164,780 - $314,960.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
