The Opportunity

As a dedicated Technical Recruiter (Mid-Level), you will manage the full recruitment lifecycle by identifying, attracting, and securing top-tier technical talent to meet USAA’s evolving hiring objectives. You will leverage innovative sourcing strategies, build strong relationships within technical communities, and collaborate closely with hiring leaders to understand complex business requirements. Key responsibilities include developing diverse talent pipelines, performing full-cycle recruitment, ensuring compliance with all regulations, and maintaining real-time updates in the Applicant Tracking System (Workday). This position requires a deep understanding of the technology landscape, creative problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional candidate experience.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.

This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Develops and implements innovative sourcing strategies leveraging technical expertise and advanced tools to proactively identify, engage, and build pipelines of high-caliber technical talent for critical open positions.

  • Conducts full-cycle technical recruitment, utilizing a deep understanding of various technical domains and specialized recruitment methodologies to attract and secure top engineering, IT, and specialized technology professionals.

  • Builds and nurtures strategic partnerships with technical communities, industry organizations, and educational institutions to generate a diverse and robust pipeline of candidates aligned with the organization's technology hiring and program objectives.

  • Consults with hiring managers and technical leaders to deeply understand complex business requirements, technical skill sets, and the competitive landscape, translating these needs into effective recruitment strategies and compelling job descriptions that highlight the organization's technological advancements and unique value proposition.

  • Establishes and expands community networks and relationships within the tech industry, with a focus on military, diversity, and university programs, to meet specialized hiring requirements with minimal guidance.

  • Manages candidate engagement and communication with a high-touch, technically informed approach throughout the entire recruitment process, ensuring candidates are consistently updated and have a positive experience.

  • Leverages technical expertise to identify and implement effective sourcing and networking strategies and tools, including advanced search techniques, niche job boards, and professional networking platforms, to build targeted candidate pools that meet current and future hiring demands.

  • Negotiates competitive compensation packages for technical roles within approved ranges, ensuring alignment with market data and maintaining fiduciary responsibility to the company.

  • Forecasts and manages the size and readiness of technical talent pools to proactively fulfill workforce plans and achieve critical hiring objectives.

  • Collaborates closely with hiring managers and internal partners to ensure adherence to all relevant technical recruiting processes, compliance with external and internal regulatory agencies, and a seamless hiring workflow.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to team members on technical recruitment best practices, emerging technologies, and effective candidate engagement strategies.

  • Applies in-depth knowledge of relevant human resources disciplines, with a particular focus on employment law, policies, and procedures as they pertain to technical hiring and talent acquisition.

  • Ensures risks associated with technical recruitment activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 4 years of progressive work experience in staffing, general human resources, and/or account relationship management, to include knowledge of applicable employment laws.

  • Demonstrated understanding of recruiting methods and best practices. 

  • Knowledge of applicable HR policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective screening and interviewing techniques.

  • Proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software supporting sourcing tools and techniques.

What sets you apart:

  • Experience recruiting for technical roles such as software engineers, architects, cloud engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity analysts, DevOps, or IT infrastructure professionals.

  • Strong understanding of the SDLC, cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP), and modern tech stacks .

  • Ability to influence hiring managers and advise them using market trends, compensation insights, and real-time talent availability.

  • Proven ability to manage full-cycle recruiting while maintaining a high‑touch, high‑quality candidate experience.

  • Skilled at using recruiting analytics (time-to-fill, funnel metrics, pipeline health) and market intelligence to guide hiring decisions and strategy.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $85,040.00 - $162,550.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
