The Opportunity

The Director, Partnership Development at USAA leads a high‑performing team focused on identifying, securing, and scaling partnerships that expand USAA’s new distribution channels—including embedded insurance opportunities, agent and broker networks, and partnerships that power USAA’s broader home and auto ecosystem programs, as well as future strategic initiatives.

This leader owns the full front‑end partnership lifecycle: developing a disciplined pipeline, building and prioritizing opportunity maps, engaging and advancing prospects through each stage of the funnel, working alongside Global Sourcing and Procurement and Legal for negotiating and executing contracts, and overseeing all pre‑onboarding activities. After agreements are finalized, they ensure a seamless transition to onboarding and partnership management teams while remaining engaged for hypercare support, quarterly business reviews, and acting on future growth opportunities.

They bring a strategic, externally oriented mindset that combines deep market insight, rigorous pipeline development, and strong deal execution to accelerate USAA’s growth across key ecosystem, distribution, and partnership pathways.

As a dedicated Director, Partnership Development you will leads a team who are responsible for developing, establishing and maintaining on-going relationships between the company, strategic partners and customers. Provides business opportunity analysis, assesses potential markets, and develops projects for use in new marketing initiatives. Ensures the team provides their knowledge of the business and its products to increase sale, revenue, profit and market share. Anticipates opportunities and potential solutions and leads team through the problem resolution process.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based on the San Antonio, TX; Phoenix, AZ.; Colorado Springs, CO. Plano, TX; Charlotte, NC. or Tampa, FL campus. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.


What you'll do:

  • Responsible for developing internal processes and policies to support future growth opportunities to provide USAA (or USAAEF) services in communities where USAA (or USAAEF) does/does not have a physical presence.

  • Influences the strategic activities/direction across the team that directly leads to increased business development.

  • Manages teams and collaborates with peers to optimize staffing, training needs, capacity, business models, and processes.

  • Contributes problem resolution and supervision to team member needs.

  • Applies expert knowledge of business strategies and capabilities, industry best practices, technologies and the utilization of third-party vendors to implement solutions.

  • Maintains and expands knowledge of available product offerings, specifically banking and mortgage lending products, both internal and external to USAA.

  • Creates new volume channels, business models, and growth strategies that provide product growth to USAA focusing through internal/external optimization, establishing builder/realtor relationships, creating company alliances and developing innovative business enhancements.

  • Responsible for building a high-performance team by understanding internal and external lead campaigns, utilizes all metrics to review overall campaign and team performance, and provide continuous coaching and feedback that leads to improved results.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.    

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.  (Total of 12 years of experience in business development and sales experience in a financial services industry without bachelor’s degree)

  • 8 years of business development and sales experience in a financial services industry.

  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.

  • Experience focused on strategy development, competitive customer and industry analysis, market research, analysis of product performance, and support of corporate development / strategic value assessment activities. 

  • Demonstrated expertise executing on innovative ways to communicate the business value to prospects and existing clients.

  • Extensive experience presenting information to company leadership and make dynamic presentations to large groups from within and outside the company.

  • Expert organizational skills with an ability to simultaneously manage numerous sales campaigns.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate.

  • Comprehensive experience processing complex information and quickly identifying innovative solutions that meet the needs of potential clients. 

What sets you apart:  

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

  • Experience designing and executing embedded insurance strategies across auto, home, and financial ecosystems to include distribution enablement and capability extension.

  • Experience with partnerships in car buying, telematics, IoT, servicing, and ownership‑lifecycle offerings

  • Experience with building and growing relationships with agent/broker channels

  • Experience identifying trends, assessing competitive landscapes, analyzing financial feasibility, and anticipating industry shifts

  • Proven experience managing high‑performing teams, driving alignment across business units, and influencing executive direction for new distribution initiatives

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
