USAA Life Company is seeking a talented Business Strategy and Planning Director for this new individual contributor opportunity working on the Life Company Chief of Staff team with accountability to lead orchestration of key initiatives supporting the Office of the Life Company President, to include, but not limited to serving as Primary Board Liaison with integration across Association peers, Rating Agency, Board development, and key briefing development across Life Company as directed by the Executive Chief of Staff. We are looking for an employee with high learning agility and the ability to connect the dots to effectively serve as a champion for driving Life company strategic initiatives.  This individual will proactively identify emerging risks, dependencies, and competing priorities; surface potential collisions before they become issues; bring forward recommendations and actionable solutions; and foster collaboration across organizations to drive alignment and execution. Success in this role requires strong Life Insurance, Annuity and Health business acumen, the ability to operate in ambiguity, synthesize complex information, anticipate impacts across the value chain, and influence outcomes through partnership, accountability, and disciplined follow-through.

This role will provide support and guidance to executive management to identify, develop and communicate specific business strategies across functional areas, utilizing expert knowledge of USAA, industry, business development, and financial planning. Leads strategic analyses of business needs and environmental trends in support of business strategy development and planning processes and, as appropriate, enterprise strategy and planning processes. This role conducts business strategy reviews to assess progress and drive awareness of strategy achievement.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based on the San Antonio, TX. Campus.  Relocation assistance IS available for this position


What you'll do:

  • Drives the development and coordination of components within the overarching strategy for the Function.

  • Works with executive management to establish strategic and operational framework that establishes enables short and long-term business goals and key results.

  • Develops specific processes to manage the business strategic and operational planning process.

  • Drives the alignment of business process and frameworks to enterprise strategy, process and framework.

  • Partners with senior-level leaders across functions and channels to develop near- and long-term visions and roadmaps and works with business leaders to manage transition from strategy to execution.

  • Maintains responsibility of integration of change management plans, project documentation and strategies for large, complex business specific initiatives that often impact the organization and/or enterprise.

  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses to evaluate operational effectiveness by establishing best practices and management routines to address gaps.

  • Guides team members as they perform research and analysis.

  • Supports executive leadership by leading the design, coordination, and governance of the annual strategic planning and operational planning processes.

  • Leads and motivates cross-functional team members in strategy and operational plan development and implementation.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.

  • 8 years of directly related business planning consultation experience to include developing business strategy for short-term and/or long-term goals.

  • Experience influencing and managing communication to senior executives, internal colleagues through concise, official and regular updates on status, progress, strategies and roadmaps.

  • Extensive experience in Project Management.

  • Strong business acumen in financial services or related industry, and a proven ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation skills.

  • Experience working with clients/customers to realize business issues and develop a strategy for the business's direction from the gathered insights.

What sets you apart:  

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

  • Management consulting experience within Life Insurance, Annuities and/or Health Insurance industries

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other Project Management Designations

  • Strong storytelling and communication skills

  • Prior Chief of Staff, strategy director, or business management role supporting senior executives in a cross-matrixed environment.

  • The capacity to translate intricate data into clear, actionable PowerPoint presentations or board-ready materials that persuade and align key stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to synthesize complex data into executive-level narratives; strong track record building board and C-suite materials.

  • Expertise in guiding diverse teams without direct authority and building consensus across departments to execute complex business plans

  • Ability to navigate in fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080-$205,340

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
