The Opportunity
As a dedicated Protective Security Officer - Intermediate Level, you will provide armed response to defeat armed adversaries during emergency incidents involving workplace violence, active shooters, and duress situations. Renders lifesaving first aid during medical emergencies. Controls access to protected areas in preservation of life safety, identifying and correcting policy violations. Monitors safety and security situations, identifies discrepancies and implements corrective actions to remove threats in protection of the workforce. Performs as a team member in controlling incident scenes, recovering operations, and implementing actions directed by local fire and police authorities. Enforces established procedures with employees, visitors, and unaffiliated people while under supervision. Performs routine duties and identifies and reports problems in accordance with standard operating procedures. Supports Senior PSOs and Security Management with overall team performance.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following location: Colorado Springs, CO. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Understands and applies policies and procedures displaying basic knowledge on operational matters.
- Provides armed response to critical incidents and takes direction on immediate actions to stop acts of violence by armed assailants with weapons, render lifesaving first aid, and resolve issues during the response phase of Incident Management.
- Responds to simulated calls for service by participation in training drills, receives feedback on response, and participates in after action reviews for emergency response situations.
- Responds to calls for service based on alarms received in the Security Operations Center, provides immediate visual assessment, and takes appropriate actions using a force continuum model. Completes detailed Incident Reports following response actions and refers the reports for additional investigation by corporate investigations or employee relations.
- Controls access to private property and secured facilities for employees and visitors, creates and issues credentials.
- Identifies threats and responds to access control policy violations.
- Actively patrols private property and secured facilities to identify threats, prevent trespassing, theft, and vandalism.
- Enforces parking/traffic policies, identifies infractions and issues citations.
- Detects unauthorized conduct impacting the safety of the campus, takes appropriate response actions, and documents in an Incident Report.
- Participate in continuous on-the-job duty position training to maintain an appropriate skill level.
- Conducts post-related activities during special events and supports executive protection or law enforcement during incident response.
- Reports preventative security activities to the Security Operations Center for documentation and data analysis that leads to adjustments in security posture directions.
- Participates in live fire training sessions and an annual live fire qualification course. Completes Response Skills training sessions with physical demonstration of defensive tactics, individual and team movement during response, and first aid response actions.
- Passes an annual Standards Evaluation that includes discussion and demonstration of the USAA Force Continuum.
- Implements procedures for issue/turn-in, storage/transportation of handguns
- Maintains State handgun licensing requirements.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or applicable trade/technical school diploma.
- 1 or more years of physical security, law enforcement, or military combat arms experience.
- Ability to operate computer programs for access control, camera systems, alarm annunciation, radio dispatch and general use of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must possess valid state driver's license.
- Job Offer contingent on passing the MMPI evaluation.
- Initial and continued employment conditional upon passing USAA’s Protective Security training standards within 3 attempts (for initial and follow-on training cycles) and obtaining required state armed security license and/or certification for assigned post state within 6 months.
What sets you apart:
- Ability to work 10/12 hr shifts 4 days a week on weekdays, weekends, and at night. Occasional overtime may be required.
- Previous experience in responding to emergency incidents, dealing with potential use of force incidents and experienced in successful de-escalation of critical incidents and individuals.
- Ability to rapidly respond to a critical incident while maintaining situational awareness while apply critical thinking and learned best practices and policies.
- Prior LE or security, EMT or medic related experience, familiar with report managements systems, incident/spot reports, two-way radio communications and regulatory control systems and policies.
- Possess a strong firearm safety track record, proficiency and familiarity. Ability to always maintain individual firearm safety awareness and accountability.
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner [optional]
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $43,680.00 - $65,750.00.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
