The Opportunity

Join USAA as a Manager, Protective Security in Chesapeake, VA, and play a critical role in upholding our mission to facilitate the financial security of millions of U.S. military members and their families. In this position, you will lead a Protective Security team dedicated to safeguarding our members and property, directly contributing to the trust and loyalty that defines USAA, all while embodying our core values of honesty, integrity, loyalty, and service.

As a dedicated Manager, Protective Security, you will provides operational management oversight for an armed security force responsible to defeat armed adversaries during emergency incidents involving active shooters and duress situations. Plans, organizes, and implements Protective Security Operations at the campus level in response to emergency incidents involving workplace violence, medical emergencies, access control violations, and other security events in protection of the workforce. Assists in planning strategy to identify threat actors and mitigate risks to the Association. Performs Incident Command responsibilities and coordinates as company liaison with local fire and police authorities during serious incidents. Provides administrative oversight for Protective Security Officers.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 5 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following location: Chesapeake, VA. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Manages routine and emergency response actions of an armed proprietary security force tasked with taking immediate actions to stop acts of violence by armed assailants.
  • Authors, reviews, and approves written guidance, work products, and incident reports.
  • Reviews data analytics of security activities and incidents to determine proper use and placement of security force team members.
  • Performs Incident Command for critical incidents, manages Protective Security Officer response, and coordinates with local authorities to stop acts of violence, preserve life, and protect infrastructure.
  • Develops security operations plans for special events and coordinates with Executive Protection and local authorities.
  • Initiates investigations and inquiries into incidents of theft, vandalism, traffic accidents, and company policy violations, to include the preservation of evidence for subsequent investigative activity by Corporate Investigation of law enforcement.
  • Conducts candidate interviews, selects individuals, assigns team members to shifts, approves PTO, and timesheets.
  • Participates in live fire training sessions and an annual live fire qualification course.
  • Completes Response Skills training sessions with physical demonstration of defensive tactics, individual and team movement during response, and first aid response actions.
  • Passes an annual Standards Evaluation that includes discussion and demonstration of the  USAA Force Continuum.
  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) and Security Industry certification may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 6 years of experience in physical security, emergency response, military police, law enforcement,  or combat operations.
  • 4 years of experience in a role accountable for teams responding to active shooter, active assailant, or acts of violence.
  • 2 years of direct team lead, supervisory or management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding in physical security, cybersecurity, and emergency protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs for access control, camera systems, alarm annunciation, radio dispatch and general use of  Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess valid state driver's license.
  • Job Offer contingent on passing an MMPI evaluation.
  • Initial and continued employment conditional upon passing USAA’s Protective Security training standards within 3 attempts (for initial and follow-on training cycles) and obtaining required state armed security license and/or certification for assigned post state within 6 months.
  • Texas security commission OR Florida security D and G licenses OR Arizona armed guard training.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $96,680.00 - $174,020.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
