The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Policy and Alliance Relationship Director for our Policy & Alliances team in Washington, DC.

As a dedicated Policy and Alliance Relationship Director, you will be responsible for cultivating and managing key relationships with military community stakeholders, gathering critical intelligence, and informing strategic recommendations for policy changes that benefit USAA and the military community. Supports the execution of USAA's advocacy strategy through proactive relationship management and insightful analysis.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based at our Washington, DC location. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key personnel within military service organizations (MSOs), veteran service organizations (VSOs), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Pentagon, and other relevant entities.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned external partners, responding to inquiries and facilitating communication with internal USAA teams.

  • Actively gather intelligence on emerging issues, policy changes, and collaborator perspectives relevant to USAA's military advocacy priorities.

  • Analyze gathered intelligence and prepare concise reports and briefings, highlighting key trends and potential implications for USAA.

  • Collaborate with the leadership to develop and implement relationship management plans for assigned partners, outlining engagement strategies and desired outcomes.

  • Support USAA's participation in military community events and conferences, representing the organization and establishing relationships with key partners.

  • Contribute to the development of USAA's policy positions by providing insights and recommendations based on partner feedback and intelligence gathered.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all stakeholder interactions.

  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and other materials for internal and external audiences, highlighting USAA's commitment to the military community.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen USAA's relationships with the military community and enhance the organization's reputation as a leading advocate.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; OR 4 years of related experience, in addition to the minimum years of experience required, may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years experience actively engaged with government policy to include conducting research and analysis and acting on policy that impacts business strategy or goals.

  • Demonstrated experience leading external relationships and policy to influence business goals.

  • Experience attending business events, building business relationships.

  • Demonstrated experience in critical thinking, approaching work to deliver results.

  • Expert in influencing through subject matter expertise, and providing root cause analysis for applicable business issues.

  • Demonstrated experience in critical thinking.

  • Proven track record to influence through subject matter expertise.

What sets you apart:

  • Substantial experience working directly with or within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

  • Deep understanding of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) organization with experience interpreting and applying VA policies and procedures 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree from an accredited institution.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
