The Opportunity
We are seeking a Military Affairs Representative Lead– Air Force (Northwest) with extensive staff and leadership experience at a major military command or higher headquarters. The ideal candidate should possess in-depth knowledge of military leadership structures and installation functions, as well as active-duty Air Force and Air Force Reserve Forces programs. This position requires the ability to work weekends and long hours, with at least 120 days of travel per year. Additionally, candidates should have experience in military community engagement, program development, and advocacy.
This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.
What you'll do:
- Develops, coordinates operational plan and budget with virtual team members for geographical area.
- Advises senior management in the development of Military Affairs operations tactics for achieving USAA annual goals and objectives.
- Ensures resources are used to accurately support enterprise activity and is accountable for optimizing the budget and all expenditures within area of responsibility.
- Develops work plan and assists team members in the prioritization of USAA activities such as catastrophes operations, enterprise focused activity, dialogue with members for feedback, and collection of and reporting competitor intelligence.
- Works with virtual USAA team coordinating members in dispensed area of operation.
- Development and execution of initiatives that builds a favorable image of USAA and its full range of products and services.
- Understands the regulatory environment within the geographical area which limits USAA product availability.
- Coordinates team member engagement coverage for meetings with senior military leadership and military business partners to build relationships, advocate on behalf of USAA and develop business opportunity events. Recommends responses to incidents; provides input to Marketing advertisement (commercials/photo shoots); and monitor/report changes in the Military community.
- Assesses, evaluates, establishes and develops business opportunities by knowing and engaging with the military community both on and off installations. Assists the Executive Director, Field Operations in training employees on how to present USAA Financial Readiness Training to military community.
- Represents all USAA lines of business and applies broad knowledge of business, products and business processes.
- Educates USAA leadership and various USAA Boards regarding the military community and the military community regarding USAA. Schedules and conducts Military Acumen Visit for USAA Leaders. Provides Military 101 training at New Employee Orientation and provides USAA Financial Readiness Training to ROTC Units and the military community.
- Plans and negotiates installation marketing agreement as part of the installation marketing plan and strategy; this includes marketing tactics, placement, and timely and relevant messaging.
- Management of the installation marketing currency, creative rotation, and replacement.
- Analyze past campaign performance and adjust approach as needed to attain marketing agreement success/return on objectives.
- Analyzes, identifies trends, and makes recommendation regarding market segments and effective resource utilization within the geographical area.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 8 or more years of related experience and accountability for complex tasks and/or projects required.
- Possession of Military ID card required
- Subject-matter-expert knowledge of the function/rigor and application of knowledge, skills and abilities towards work products required.
- Subject-matter-expert level of discernment in the areas of the business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.

- Military assignment serving in a senior military leadership position.
- Staff and leadership experience serving at a major military command or higher headquarters.

- Extensive knowledge of Air Force active-duty military, and Air Force Reserve Forces programs and services.
- Ability to work weekends in support of Air Force active-duty, and Air Force Reserve Force activities as necessary.
- Ability to work long hours and travel a minimum of 120 days per year to include extended overnight trips to include weekends.
- Travel to locations through the North West region
- 10-years or more experience engaging the military community.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310 - $243,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
