The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Transformation Manager Principal for the Member Value Team.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position must be based in our San Antonio, TX office. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

You will drive the direction and outcome of major, complex and strategic cross-functional project initiatives that align to a business' overall strategic plan and apply master expertise of waterfall and/or agile methodologies to lead the strategic development, operational planning, and budget management of business projects. As a subject matter expert on transformation, you’ll serve in a capacity of extension of the executive sponsor to deliver transformation projects with significant impact to the business. You will translate business strategy into an integrated program plan that influences and provides thoughtful leadership to individuals that are responsible for the end-to-end program life-cycle which includes: negotiating trade-offs, timely execution, and successful implementation. This position is a key contributor to the operational and strategic direction of the business and ensures strategies are efficiently and effectively implemented in alignment with business goals. You will deliver on strategic transformation effectiveness through proactive identification of highly complex issues resulting from unknown risks or misalignment of business goals and will be accountable for matrixed leadership and working closely with stakeholders to identify solutions, resolve major issues, including processes any systems, and deliver on agreed upon scope for strategic outcomes.

  • Drives the development and execution of large and highly complex projects that deliver the strategic vision for the business and enterprise. Applies mastery skills on transformation, agile and/or waterfall methodologies to provide strategic project management, support and serve as an integration point for the development and implementation of strategic key initiative projects.
  • Accountable for implementing business strategy through delivery and execution of member or customer facing capabilities in a complex multi-channel, multi-product, integrated system environment. Responsible for achieving specific strategic business outcomes; drives clear goals, objectives and timelines. Assesses, triages and optimizes the delivery of strategy through the lifecycle of the effort.
  • Oversees project management adherence to the agile/waterfall governance practices and framework to ensure consistent execution of large, enterprise-wide strategic project delivery across USAA and / or multiple business units, supporting enterprise business objectives.
  • Manages systems design development, business requirements analysis and day to day processes utilizing agile/waterfall methodologies. Presents information to key executive business leaders and Board of Director's stakeholders.
  • Owns the project life-cycle of the strategic operational programs. Evaluates integrated plans for strategic deliverables to identify if third-party sourcing solutions are key to execute strategic program/projects.
  • Oversees RFP process to ensure third-party contractual services are in alignment with business processes required to deliver on strategic initiatives. Responsible that risk, compliance and regulatory requirements are adhered to and incorporated within third-party deliverables.
  • Negotiates agreements, settles disputes equitably and diffuses high tension situations between cross functional teams and impacted audiences by work effort.
  • Leads components of on-going operational planning. Engages and aligns with executive senior leadership on the strategic direction of critical and major change efforts.
  • Responsible for converting strategic intent into delivery planning for the transformation team to deliver on highly-complex project execution/implementation.
  • Maintains effective communication with key stakeholders, making them aware of critical issues confronting the Strategic Initiatives and the action plans for addressing those issues.
  • Partners with the Portfolio Management Office to prioritize, pace, and sequence appropriately across the Portfolio.
  • Anticipates risks and issues in complex, multi-workstream change efforts. Ensures the remediation plans are actively being created and actioned, and that potential issues are consistently mitigated.
  • Accountable for appropriate strategic/tactical solutions that ensure compliant business requirements are delivered and adopted to mitigate risk and remain a compliant company.
  • Proactively drives improvements to identify, address, and correct any areas of business operation requiring regulatory and/or compliance attention.
  • Responsible for operational strategy development and interaction with Senior Management on applicable compliance oversight.
  • Maintain current awareness of developments, trends and legal/regulatory changes in the Financial Services industry. Works within multiple project management disciplines, having operational awareness of both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Accountable for adhering to Association Portfolio Management Office processes, procedures, controls and standards and ensuring proper strategic change management is in place for program delivery along with measures for success.
  • Serves as an extension to executive sponsor to lead Communities of Practice and engage practitioners, share best practices, and improve USAA's collective transformation delivery capabilities.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree (14 years of experience in lieu of a degree).
  • 10 years professional experience in leading consulting on complex strategic initiatives, process improvement, IT, or operations within a highly regulated environment of financial services.
  • Deep technical experience and application of Waterfall and/or Agile methodologies within complex, multi-product, integrated systems environment.
  • Mastery of project management consulting skills with extensive experience in system design and development from business requirements analysis through to day to day management.
  • Extensive experience working with Third Parties and Vendors to include developing Statements of Work (SOW), and Request for Proposals (RFP), etc.
  • Expert knowledge and application of laws and regulations that govern-third-party management.
  • Extensive experience in the delivery of strategic change management, product development and delivery experience to include expertise in the program portfolio discipline.
  • Recent experience translating complex business strategy and vision into an executable business process and technology plan and successfully delivering component.
  • Experience collaborating with key stakeholders, influencing senior leader decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
  • Strong relationship management building skills with the ability to effectively collaborate, communicate and develop relationships across leadership to include senior level executives.
  • Proven experience presenting to executive management including senior level executives.
  • Expert in industry standard in the program portfolio discipline.
  • Certification in Waterfall or Agile methodologies.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $164,780-$296,610.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
