The Opportunity

As a dedicated Military Affairs Representative, you will develop and execute the annual Operational Plan within assigned area of operation to assist Military Affairs and the enterprise in meeting business goals and objectives. Independently perform complex work assignments and problem resolution that builds relationships with outside organizations, increases USAA branding opportunities, enhances relations with members and prospects, and develops and implements outreach programs to select market segments. Lead the development and execution of initiatives that create a favorable image of USAA and its full range of products and services. Incumbents may be required to travel both locally and on extended overnight trips at a minimum of 120 days per year, which may include weekends

We are seeking a dedicated Military Affairs Representative that lives in or will be willing to relocate to within 50 miles of Fayetteville, NC. Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Meets with military installation senior leadership to build relationships and develop business opportunity events in support of military members and their families.
  • Utilizes and applies broad knowledge of USAA's full range of business products, services and business process and programs available to improve relationships with leaders, members and prospects.
  • Serves as a resource to peers and team member including leading and training cross functional teams in the execution of face-to-face marketing and informational events.
  • Identifies and understands the intended goals of Military Affairs and USAA.
  • Works as a military subject matter expert with USAA lines of business and staff agencies when access to military installations is required or when military expertise is essential to project success.
  • Deepens existing relationships with senior military leaders to optimize business opportunities on and off military installations.
  • Analyzes, identifies trends, and makes recommendations regarding market segments and effective resource utilization.
  • Collaborates with management and marketing to develop initiatives and programs to effectively reach members and prospects.
  • Plans and negotiates installation marketing agreement as part of the installation marketing plan and strategy; this includes marketing tactics, placement, and timely and relevant messaging.
  • Assist in managing installation marketing currency, creative rotation, and replacement.
  • Analyze past campaign performance and adjust approach as needed to attain Marketing agreement success/return on objectives.
  • Schedules and conducts Military Acumen Visits for USAA Leaders.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert on enterprise wide teams.
  • Provides Military 101 training at New Employee Orientation and provides USAA Financial Readiness Training to ROTC Units and the military community.
  • Audits Military communications developed by the enterprise for employee education to ensure accuracy and USAA mission relevancy.
  • Represents all USAA lines of business and their products and services.
  • Dialogues with members and provides feedback to senior management on issues, accolades and competitive intelligence.
  • Manages assigned program expenses within annual budget.
  • Contributes to employee understanding of critical aspects of military life and culture.
  • Resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work product.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 or more years of experience engaging the military community.
  • Possession of Military ID card required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of tactical, operational and strategic planning, understanding of program development and project tracking, and ability to create and understand business metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other software to develop analyses, charts and supporting documentation.
  • Meets and maintains all USAA safety driving requirements.

What sets you apart:

  • Military assignment within the last two years serving in a senior military leadership position.
  • Staff and leadership experience serving at a major military command or higher headquarters.
  • Extensive knowledge of military leadership structure and military installation functions.
  • Extensive knowledge of active duty, National Guard, Army Reserve Forces programs and services.
  • Ability to work weekends in support of active-duty, National Guard and Army Reserve Force activities as necessary.
  • Ability to work long hours and travel a minimum of 120 days per year to include extended overnight trips to include weekends.
  • 10-years or more experience engaging the military community.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, including lifting boxes, tent, and display in and out of a car.
  • Ability to spend long hours, up to 10 hours a day, on feet either indoors or outdoors.
  • Currently reside in Fayetteville, NC or able to relocate to within 50 miles of this location.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $69,920 - $133,620.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
