As a principal-level Corporate Affairs Business Partner focused on Insurance, you will serve as a deputy to the AVP and help bring the full power of Corporate Affairs to life for our Property & Casualty and Life Company lines of business. You will drive alignment to the USAA and line-of-business strategies and, together with our partners across Corporate Affairs and the association, you will craft compelling internal and external content that strengthens reputation, engages stakeholders and moves the needle for the business. You will operate as a strategic advisor, going beyond communications and getting deep into the business. You will engage directly with Executive Council (EC) members and their direct reports, relying on your business acumen, persuasive style, sound judgement and passion for the mission to fuel your success.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office four days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance IS available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Provides strategic counsel to C-suite leadership on communications, reputation management, corporate impact, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring Corporate Affairs proactively enables enterprise strategy, drives growth, and mitigates risk.
- Designs and implements comprehensive, integrated corporate affairs plans, leveraging data analytics and stakeholder mapping to align initiatives with enterprise-level strategic objectives and measurable business outcomes. This includes the development of comprehensive plans, resource allocation models, and performance tracking mechanisms.
- Leads the development and implementation of corporate affairs strategies, proactively identifying and managing crises, reputational risks, and opportunities to advance enterprise goals.
- Utilizes advanced risk assessment methodologies and data analysis to develop proactive mitigation strategies for emerging issues and external threats.
- Maintains a deep understanding of the external market, business strategy, and corporate affairs trends, ensuring team alignment through effective communication, training, and knowledge sharing.
- Develops and maintains strong internal partnerships, leveraging data-driven performance insights to iteratively refine corporate affairs strategies and maximize impact on business objectives.
- Collaborates effectively with corporate affairs teams to deliver high-impact communications that support corporate strategy and achieve business objectives.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor's Degree required; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or general business consulting, to include 6 years of experience developing and implementing public affairs strategies for complex organizations.
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies that drive significant business value and enhance the organization's reputation.
- Expert understanding of the financial services industry and regulatory landscape.
- Trusted advisor who effectively guides alignment and decision making through collaboration.
- Proven ability to analyze complex situations, identify key challenges, and implement solutions that drive business success.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences. A recognized thought leader within the industry, capable of presenting complex information clearly and persuasively to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven success leading cross-functional teams to achieve significant results.
What sets you apart:
- Experience supporting P&C or Life Insurance businesses, preferably both
- Experience at mid- to large-sized public relations agencies and/or management consulting experience
- U.S. military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $257,970.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
