The Opportunity
Our Workforce Transition Advisor Lead provides leadership, oversight and administration of the severance plan and third-party out-placement services arising from support of end-to-end processes and organizational initiatives while ensuring nondiscriminatory handling, consistency and similarly situated employees receive same treatment. Provides leadership during placement efforts by providing guidance, tools, and assistance to business stakeholders, HR partners, and outside Career Transition services enabling effective job career activities.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position is based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Interprets and leads severance programs and policies in accordance with the applicable laws.
Serves as the subject matter expert and leads oversight of administration for the severance programs; leads requests, in partnership with labor and employment counsel, from regulatory agencies and represents USAA as required.
Highly effective collaboration with leaders, partners, and employees to influence and ensure compliant strategies and solutions in leading large-scale severance initiatives, individual severance requests, and facilitating placements for employees as a result of business initiatives by developing and maintaining strong relationships, and demonstrating empathy, personal courage, and ability to provide tough messages.
Leads oversight of vendor relationship of out placement services; includes invoice processing, contract renewals and updates, monitors and ensures compliance/ performance is maintained, and leads vendor initiatives.
Expert in effectively and timely handling and documenting all business initiatives, individual severance requests, as well as accommodation placements using expert discretion and judgment to lead issue resolution, handle private, confidential employee and organizational information.
Develops compliant strategies for resolution with partners, employees, and business leaders. Coordinates effectively with partners on all severance requests and accommodation placements to meet compliance requirements and mitigate risk.
Provides expert advice and training of the severance process to all partners; demonstrates expert communication skills in questioning and challenging partners and executive leaders to align USAA culture, maintain compliance and mitigate risk.
Strong initiative to produce and manage reporting metrics/analytics to ensure compliance, benchmark, monitor trends, and proactively address issues with organization leaders and other partners.
Proactively utilizes data and trending analysis to develop action plans and implement solutions.
Expert understanding and knowledge of leave, accommodation, and workers’ compensation processes, policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws enabling ability to lead, plan, execute, and deliver on severance related projects and to ensure policies are up to date and remain current with all local and federal regulations.
Monitors to ensure timely remittance of severance payments are processed in accordance with the Summary Plan Description, state workers’ compensation laws and federal laws.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
8 years of related experience and accountability with the delivery and administration of Severance Plans or Benefits administration.
Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of leave, accommodation, and workers’ compensation processes, policies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Strong proficiency in Employment Laws to include the Family Medical Leave Act, American with Disabilities Act, Title VII, Older Workers Protection Act, the Federal Labor Standards Act, and the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Act.
Subject-matter-expert knowledge of Labor and Employment laws, Severance Plans, ERISA Plans, and demonstrated partnership with Labor and Employment council to ensure compliance, as well as appropriate application of WARN and Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) and adverse impact analysis. This includes expert understanding of severance plan, applicable policies, and employment laws as well as job accommodation placement process and vendor management.
Expertise in documenting severance rationale, conversations, and notes to effectively document business initiatives as well as reflect individual employee support provided.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy, caring, and candid effective feedback.
Demonstrated experience in providing effective challenge, influencing, coaching, and mentoring employees at all levels (EMG/Non-EMG).
Strong attention to details, problem solving, time management, prioritization, and analytical skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows, Word, Excel, and ability to learn vendor applications.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $103,450- $186,210.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
