As a dedicated Visual Strategist Lead, you will be responsible for leading large-scale visual strategy projects, driving cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment between communication and strategic objectives. This role translates complex ideas into clear, actionable visuals that improve decision-making, enhance strategic alignment, and deliver measurable impact for internal and external stakeholders.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you'll do:

  • Leads the design and execution of complex visual frameworks for strategic initiatives, such as strategy maps, and decision governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and mission.
  • Provides thought leadership on visual storytelling and communication best practices, ensuring visual outputs are compelling and drive strategic alignment and decision-making.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and strategy teams to embed visual strategy into decision-making processes, integrating visual tools and frameworks into key business activities.
  • Innovates methodologies by developing and implementing new processes to scale visual storytelling across the organization, enhancing efficiency and impact.
  • Drives cross-functional collaboration by facilitating teamwork between Corporate Affairs, Marketing, and other stakeholders to ensure unified messaging and strategic alignment.
  • Develops and maintains a library of reusable visual tools and templates that can be scaled across the organization, reducing the time and effort required to produce high-quality visual content.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of visual content and tools, using analytics to inform and refine future strategies and deliverables.
  • Stays updated on industry trends and technologies in visual communication, ensuring the team’s skills and knowledge remain current.
  • Mentors junior visual strategists by providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities to foster a high-performing team.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, graphic design, visual arts, marketing, communications, or a related field; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in creative strategy or visual communication.
  • Demonstrated track record leading and executing high-impact visual campaigns for large brands.
  • Proven ability to transform complex data, strategies, and insights into clear, actionable, and visually compelling tools.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional collaborative environment, ideally within a Fortune 500 company or agency.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering high-profile presentations for large audiences, including executive leadership.
  • Expert proficiency in media technology such as PowerPoint, Photoshop, After Effects, and designing for various output media.
  • Proven ability to seamlessly integrate editorial content with graphic and interactive media.
  • Advanced understanding of the financial services industry.
  • Deep expertise in marketing/advertising, user experience, and interactive design principles.

What sets you apart:

  • Experience working directly with C-suite executives on visual strategy and communication initiatives.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Design Strategy, Visual Communication, Business Administration with a design focus) and/or certifications in design thinking, data visualization, or related areas.
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080 - $205,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
