The Opportunity

The AVP of Corporate Impact is a key strategic role responsible for USAA’s purpose-driven work across the company, with our members, teammates, and communities. Responsibilities include USAA’s corporate social responsibility strategy, philanthropic grantmaking, belonging and sustainability initiatives. This key executive serves as an external brand ambassador; and in doing so, reinforces the authenticity of the USAA brand as the nation’s leading military-focused corporate citizen, military and employee advocate, and national belonging and sustainability leader.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano TX, OR, Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Drives strategy and execution of social impact, belonging, and sustainability efforts to cultivate and maintain member and employee trust and inclusion across a diverse workforce and membership.

  • Develops and implements social and community related policies, which may include policies to address environmental concerns and climate change and ensures existing company policies align with enterprise requirements.

  • Builds strong cross-organizational partnerships to deepen the business’ understanding of the military community’s unique needs. Provides guidance on integrating these needs into research, product design, implementation.

  • Develops, executes, and monitors methods for collecting, storing, validating, and distributing data and content for reporting and responding to key stakeholder requests. Ensures compliance with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains a deep understanding of social impact, community initiatives, the external environment, national foundation management, and philanthropic grantmaking.

  • Creates conditions for USAA employees to feel a strong sense of belonging and inspired to give time, talent, and treasure to military and community-based causes.

  • Represents both USAA, and the brand’s efforts to champion the military community, at conferences, events, and governmental engagements.

  • May act as sponsor for USAA’s first branded social impact campaign, Face the Fight ™, that aims to raise awareness of and reduce veteran suicide.

  • Builds and leads a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in community engagement, public or external affairs, or related field OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 10 years of progressive experience in community engagement, and/or public policy function with a proven track record designing and implementing enterprise-wide strategy is required.

  • 6 years of people leadership experience in building, leading and/or developing high-performing teams is required.

  • Ability to identify and handle risk. Deep understanding of legal, compliance, and regulatory issues applicable to the financial services industry.

  • Experience collaborating with key resources and collaborators, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve strategic goals across a matrixed environment.

  • Strategic problem solver and savvy communicator.

  • Demonstrated executive-level business acumen.

  • Sets and promotes high standards of customer service for both internal and external customers, and coaches team members to consistently meet these standards.

  • Experience leading multiple, enterprise-wide philanthropic, outreach, corporate affairs, branding, diversity, etc, programs that have a national scope and a direct impact on employee, customer/member, and public trust.

  • Experience directly influencing top executive leaders within a very large, highly matrixed, complex organization, as well as partner organizations outside the enterprise.

  • Demonstrated and measurable business accomplishments impacting the bottom line of business units and the enterprise – while shaping an organization’s brand and reputation.

  • Successes creating and driving strategies, bringing together disparate functions and creating a powerful team.

  • Proven thought leadership and recognition across critical external organizations that lead Corporate Social Responsibility, Belonging, Reputation and/or Sustainability.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Salary: The salary range for this position is: $195,230-$351,410.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
