The Opportunity

As USAA's Advice Director, you'll be the subject matter expert for the life & protection domain, shaping our thought leadership and creating compelling advice content—articles, videos, and advice points of view—on insurance, retirement, estate planning, loss of a loved one, and other protection related topics. You'll ensure the accuracy and completeness of our advice, leveraging expertise across the organization, and direct projects & capabilities seeking to improve member financial well-being. You'll also be one of the public faces of USAA's advice initiatives, supporting various communication efforts internal and externally.  We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in life, health, and retirement, as well as those with strong property & casualty backgrounds

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in the following locations: San Antonio TX, Plano TX, Tampa FL, Charlotte NC, Phoenix AZ, Chesapeake VA or Colorado Springs CO.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Uses internal and external research to understand member needs for advice with respect to the specific subject area, to include identifying the need for differentiated advice by member group.
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains USAA's advice point-of-view, on a specific subject, to support identified member needs.
  • Coordinates with lines of businesses and other internal partners to ensure alignment of points-of-view.
  • Collaborates within a matrixed environment to ensure availability of USAA's point-of-view to members and employees through appropriate channels.
  • Monitors current relevant member insights, competitive intelligence, industry and economic outlooks/trends, as well as regulatory and legislative issues.
  • Assesses impacts of these insights, trends and issues as they pertain to our points-of-view, and leads the appropriate updates of USAA's points-of-view and scenarios.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 or more years of experience specific to either property and casualty, life and health insurance, retirement and estate planning.

What sets you apart:

  • Certified Financial Planner ® Designation
  • 5 or more years of experience in financial planning, financial advising or a similar role.
  • Experience supporting communications; including public relations (podcast, radio, speaking events, Media events).
  • Content creation experience – longform article and/or video script writing.
  • Expert knowledge of content strategy & Search engine optimization best practices.
  • 2 or more years of experience in product management and/or experience owner experience.
  • Marketing campaign experience (creative or strategy).
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310- $243,340.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
