The Opportunity

As a dedicated Director, Real Estate Originations, you will provide leadership and operational direction to a team of managers passionate about mortgage originations. Champions teamwork and leads employees and teams to achieve business goals and objectives to meet member needs. Ensures compliance with established USAA policies/procedures, laws and regulations as applicable to mortgage lending. Proactively identifies improvements to products, processes and the delivery of service. Responsible for oversight of budget, continuous planning cycle activities and adoption of department priorities. Organizes and advises the execution of operational and strategic business plans.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in the San Antonio, TX Office.

What you'll do:

  • Leads a team of sales managers, responsible for leading loan officer professionals passionate about converting a variety of products within Real Estate Lending.
  • Responsible for the overall production of Real Estate Mortgages to meet performance objectives.
  • Responsible for teams providing the member with the appropriate product solutions to meet their needs, revenue/product goal attainment, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Resolves sophisticated issues related to service member customer concerns.
  • Accountable for business objectives through management of resources, pipeline management, and by assessing the efficiency of incumbent sales and product training.
  • Ensures that all mortgage loans are originated in compliance with regulations, policies and standards.
  • Responsible for a mortgage loan originations team that adheres to quality standards such as analyze credit reports, and income & asset documents, as well as general ways to structure a loan.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of internal and external Real Estate products and regulations such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, VA and USAA guidelines, as well as stays abreast of industry trends and best practices.
  • Ensures successful leader performance by assessing training requirements and evaluating individual training needs.
  • Promotes the development of effective team relationships. Consults with executive management and serves as a liaison to internal and external partners on department and enterprise strategies.
  • Finds opportunities to improve real estate mortgage (confirm if this is accurate, but make it specific) products, processes, and service to achieve strategic and tactical goals.
  • Facilitates strategic and operational planning and implementation processes to assure that management is knowledgeable of process, goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Supports and advises management through research and analysis of internal/external business data including industry mortgage origination standard processes, regulatory practices and competitive information.
  • Is responsible for real estate mortgage processes and programs to ensure efforts meet defined objectives, follow a structured timeline and are delivered on schedule and within budget, including dashboard monitoring, metrics synthesis and quality assurance methods.
  • Supervises the Loan Officer model and assists with early warning detection, problem triage, solution development and efficiency and upgrade implementation.
  • Builds and leads all aspects of a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, mentor and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, supervised, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 or more years of Real Estate Lending within a financial services organization.
  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience required.
  • Extensive experience in mortgage lending and knowledge of mortgage loan GSE’s, such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and VA.
  • Product knowledge; to include VA, Conventional and Non-Conforming Jumbo products.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $114,080 - $218,030.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
