The Opportunity
As a Model Validator II, you will work on a team of seasoned model risk professionals performing model validation oversight for the life-cycle management of models which includes conducting model validation activities. You will drive the model validation oversight process in accordance with internal and external policies and standards and effectively communicate identified model risks in reports and occasionally to various model stakeholders.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte, NC or Tampa, FL.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
- Conducts independent model validation control activities for lower risk, in-house and vendor, models. Assists, under supervision and in collaboration with peers, on validation activities for models.
- Applies routine validation testing to implement back-testing, diagnostic testing, sensitivity analysis, benchmarking, and other validation tests/analyses for models in collaboration with more senior level Validator.
- Performs technical programs for validation testing of model development and implementation as part of the testing plan, including compiling and running source model code and validation-based testing code.
- For lower risk models, reviews at a working experience level end-to-end life-cycle management of model development, implementation, ongoing monitoring, and use in areas of Banking and Insurance (Property & Casualty and Life) along with their corresponding business support functions and operational processes. Assesses the materiality of model changes and conducts model change validations for lower risk models.
- Contributes, under supervision, to production of validation reports and related validation work to model validation management and model team members.
- Drives the independent model validation process aligned with the written risk and compliance policies and procedures at a working experience level and under supervision of another Validator. Assists, under direction, in evaluating model risk control strengths around model development, implementation, and use.
What you have:
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a Related Field with Core Quantitative Curriculum. Four additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- Two years of related work experience in model validation, model development, statistical analysis, and/or advanced quantitative research.
- Experience communicating, individually or collaborating with peers/teammates, verbally and in-writing quantitative/technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Programming skills in R, Python, SAS, Java, C, SQL, and/or other comparable programming languages for the iterative methodological tenants of model and algorithm development including setting model specifications, assumption testing, data quality assessments, variable selection, back-testing, benchmarking, and other robust model testing.
- Basic working experience with statistical, econometric, data science, and/or predictive modeling approaches including Linear Regression; Time-Series/Forecasting; Logistic Regression; Machine Learning.
- Business context knowledge in operational and support functions of Banking and/or Insurance as well as associated modeling and analytics knowledge.
What sets you apart:
- Master’s degree with a focus on Economics, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Knowledge of Data Science methods, processes, algorithms.
- Verifying the quality and accuracy of data before using machine learning models.
- Background with coding in Python & R for analysis.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Certification is a plus.
- Solid communication, translating information effectively to a broad audience, both written and orally.
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $77,120.00 - $147,390.00.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
