Q: What is an interesting challenge you're working on at USAA?
A: One of the challenges I'm working on is control automation and monitoring. The goal is to help identify and address control risks earlier while supporting compliance across the organization. It's important work that involves solving complex problems and making sure we're delivering quality solutions.
Q: What makes this type of work challenging?
A: These challenges involve controls and risk, so there are a lot of considerations that go into finding the right solution. We also work closely with our control partners and multiple teams across the organization. Bringing everyone together and making sure we're aligned is an important part of the process.
Q: What emerging technology are you most excited about?
A: AI is one of the advancements I'm most excited about. It's changing how development teams work by helping us complete tasks more quickly and efficiently. That gives us more opportunities to focus on complex challenges and explore problems we haven't been able to solve before.
Q: How do you see technology shaping the future experience of USAA members?
A: Advancements in technology, especially AI, are creating opportunities to deliver improvements more quickly. They can also help us gather member feedback sooner and make adjustments based on their needs. Ultimately, it's about using technology to improve the experience we provide to our members.
Q: What would you tell someone considering a career in technology?
A: I would encourage them to learn about AI, including agentic AI, and develop a strong understanding of data. Knowing how to work with data and use emerging technologies to solve problems will be valuable skills as the industry continues to evolve.
