Purpose of Job

The VP, Enterprise Functions Data and Analytics Officer leads the Data and Analytics team for Enterprise Functions, and is responsible for building and overseeing a highly-skilled, analytical organization that delivers data solutions and capabilities. This executive is responsible for strategies that deliver compliant data and information solutions leading to improvement and optimization in business performance and risk minimization across the Enterprise Functions. This executive develops data-based insights for the organization and oversees modeling and scenario-driven management of risk as well as expansion into new markets. This role also serves as a catalyst for culture change, enabling fact-based decision making to occur at every level of the company.

Job Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled. 
  • Follows written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities.
  • Directs the design and execution of USAA’s data and analytics strategy, taking into account USAA’s business strategy and complex regulations and nuanced supervisory expectations, including how they apply in a matrixed environment.
  • Oversees the strategic direction and thought leadership for the Data, Analytics, and Insights community.
  • Responsible for managing data and analytical assets charged with effectively delivering actionable insights in support of USAA’s mission.
  • Sets and balances immediate and long-term priorities for the data and analytics department to meet critical objectives while considering the impact of those decisions and activities on the ability to achieve long-term goals.
  • Develops analytics and data capabilities across the organization through technology implementations, trainings, and best practices.
  • Accountable for operating within established policies and guidelines, and acting in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance, including those related to consumer protection, including ensuring policy exceptions are promptly and effectively assessed and escalated.
  • Collaborates with senior enterprise and business leaders to enable a data hub and spoke that drives consistent, scalable solutions based on data, facts, and analytical findings.
  • Applies knowledge of business strategies and capabilities, global industry trends and best practices, technologies, and the utilization of third parties to explore and identify areas for USAA Data to evolve.
  • Develops, communicates, and reinforces relevant risk appetite and risk tolerance throughout the organization in a manner that causes all employees to align their risk-taking decisions.
  • Holds self and others accountable for meeting commitments by setting and clearly communicating expectations and roles and responsibilities relative to data and analytics activities.
  • Builds and oversees a team of professionals through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, or other quantitative degree is required.
  • 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10 years of progressive experience in data, analytics, and/or information technology with a proven track record leading complex programs and teams, engaging executive level stakeholders is required.
  • 8 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams is required.
  • Experience leading architecture, design and implementation of data, analytics, and reporting solutions for enterprise functions (Risk, HR, Finance, IT, etc.)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstratable experience with enterprise scale strategy development and execution.
  • Proven experience translating business strategy into value creation through data.
  • Experience interacting with external regulatory entities.
  • Innovative, forward thinker with a demonstrated competency in strategy and leadership, strong communication and relationship management skills, and demonstrated ability to work with and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading design and development of data, analytics, and reporting solutions for management reporting, external financial and regulatory reporting, IT asset management, workforce analytics, and risk reporting


USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $236,400 - $425,700.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executives only representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based
