Purpose of Job

We are seeking a talented Corporate Development Principal for our San Antonio corporate office.

Responsible for identifying emerging technologies, market trends and leveraging those insights into actionable venture investments, joint ventures, IP transactions and M&A opportunities. Sources, structures, negotiates, executes and measures/monitors venture investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and IP transactions to facilitate the financial security of the military community and their families. Develops and maintains internal (business owners and teams) and external (entrepreneurs, bankers, VCs, professional services providers, universities, accelerators, etc.) relationships for appropriate USAA opportunities and market insight. Mentors less experienced members of the team. May lead more than one Corporate Development engagement simultaneously.

Sources, structures, negotiates, executes and measures/monitors venture investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and IP transactions to facilitate the financial security of the military community and their families.

  • Develops and maintains internal (business owners and teams) and external (entrepreneurs, bankers, VCs, professional services providers, universities, accelerators, etc.) relationships for appropriate USAA opportunities and market insight. Mentors less experienced members of the team. 

  • May lead more than one Corporate Development engagement simultaneously.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting required OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

  • 10 or more years of experience including extensive venture capital experience and/or significant (Merger & Acquisitions) M&A, joint venture, or business development experience, to include 6 or more years of specific subject-matter-expert experience and accountability for highly complex tasks and/or projects required. 

  • Executive-level subject-matter-expert knowledge of the function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills and abilities towards work products required.

  • Executive-level of business acumen in the areas of the business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.

  • Experienced in working with multidisciplinary diligence efforts and aligning and key internal constituencies.

  • Strong quantitative analysis and financial modeling skills, including understanding of financial statements and business drivers.

  • Experienced and skilled in interactions with potential internal and external partners.

  • Ability to read and interpret business-related legal documents and corporate governance matters.

Preferred:

  • Experience with the property and casualty and/or life insurance industries

  • 5+ years of experience with Mergers & Acquisitions including all phases of a transaction lifecycle

  • Prior experience as an investment banker or corporate M&A professional

  • Experience with startups or growth stage technology companies

  • Strong critical thinking skills, business judgment, and strategic perspective

  • Ability to perform valuations (discounted cash flows, multiples, venture analytics, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)

  • Advanced degree (MBA or JD)

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $155,400 - $279,800*( this does not include geographic differential it may be applied based on your work location)

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average. 

Shift premium: will be addressed on an individual-basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
