USAA offers a strong summer internship program that gives college students the opportunity to discover what it’s like to work at a leading financial services organization. Interns get a chance to help us as we serve the military community, while also gaining real-world experience and sharing knowledge with peers. This is a robust, structured 10-week program that typically runs from late May to early August.
10 weeks of real-world experience
As a USAA intern for 10 weeks, you’ll be assigned real projects and receive on-the-job and formalized training, as you learn about your chosen field. Professional development activities include executive speakers and trips. Your experience will conclude with a presentation to senior leadership on what you learned over the summer. You will also be assigned a formal manager and mentor, and will attend regular staff and town hall meetings.
Additional features of the program
All of our intern programs across the enterprise have some consistent core features, such as weekly leadership talks, final presentations and project work. Some disciplines, such as audit, claims and underwriting, have highly structured programs where each day of the summer is planned in advance. Other areas will assign a project or multiple projects to work on for the summer.
Connecting with other interns
You will get to know other interns through the interview process and our orientation program. We sponsor official social events for all interns, such as picnics, intramural sports and community service projects. Interns will also get together informally for lunch, BBQs, river trips and other local activities. USAA provides a housing stipend for qualified students, as well as suggestions for housing at a student-style complex or extended-stay hotel.
We offer internships in many different areas, depending on current needs. The majority of our internships are in San Antonio, Texas, with some also available at our Phoenix, Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tampa, Florida; Chesapeake, Virginia; and Plano, Texas offices.
